Spend with us an unforgettable day living like a typical Cretan Shepherd and experience a tradition, that did not change since hundreds of years.
From Rethymno our way is leading us through some traditional villages and the beautiful, impressive nature on the slopes of the Psiloritis, the highest mountain on Crete, which UNESCO declared as Geoparks.
After this very nice bus ride we arrive at the ancient village of Axos and stay there for a coffee-break or an optional visit to the museums of wooden sculptures or carpet weaving.
We continue following the narrow road and a while later, in the heart of the famous Ida Mountains we reach our main goal – the Shepherd’s House, a traditional Cretan Mitato. There, above the last inhabited villages, you will have an experience you probably never have had before – we help the Shepherd at his traditional work, feeding his animals, milking and shearing his sheep, making fresh cheese and then, as the highlight of the day, together with him we enjoy a typical Shepherd’s meal (included!), especially the very traditional “antikristo” and his home made wine.
After this true taste of Crete, full of fantastic impressions we take our coach to drive back down from this mystical mountain to Rethymno.
